Usability Nightmare: Carlos O’Kelly’s Online Menu

The other night I was having one of those too tired to cook, too tired to go out moments and decided to solve it by sending my husband out to fetch take out from Carlos O’Kelly’s. I didn’t have a menu on hand, so I headed to the restaurant web site:

My positive impression of the bold colors quickly faded as I tried to actually make use of the site. They have posted the menu exactly as it is presented in the print form you get in the restaurant. Not sure why they think on-line viewers want to scroll up, down, left and right to find out what they have to offer.

Life got a little easier when I noticed the “full screen” option, but then the site navigation bar wouldn’t go away and reduced the help that the larger screen offered.

E-gads, don’t do this!
