We are a nation of “news grazers.” 92% of Americans using multiple platforms to get their news each day. And the Internet is now the third-most popular platform for news, coming in after local and cable news, and ahead of newspapers and radio.
The news experience is now portable, personalized and participatory:
- 33% of cell phone users access news on their mobile
- 28% of Internet users have a customized home page
- 37% of online news consumers have also created content, commented or passed on news through social networks.
According to Pew, “Despite all of this online activity, the typical online news consumer routinely uses just a handful of news sites and does not have a particular favorite.”
