A keyword is any word or short phrase that describes a website topic or page. obviously, you care about the keywords that are used by people who are looking for the content, service, or products that you have to offer. The more a keyword is used by searchers and websites the more valuable it is.

Do, how to you understand the keywords that are important to you? Mostly, it is a matter of paying attention.

  • What words do you use when describing your business and your goals?
  • What words do current customers and contacts – people who know about you – use?
  • What words are used by other organizations in the same space, such as competitors or similar non-profits?
  • What words are used in news stories about you and/or your industry?

One you have a list of keywords, you can apply them to any online goal you may have. Using the right keywords is the fundamental way that you are found by the people you want to find you online.
