Media Training Tips from a Pro

ipraLast week I had the opportunity to attend the PRSA-NCC Independent PR Alliance media relations train the trainer workshop. The event was led by Chryssa Zizos, president of Live Wire Media Relations.

These are the key tips to help subject matter experts prepare for media interviews that I picked up from the presentation.

  • Define the headline you want and make sure you give the reporter the meat to support that headline
  • Be 100% yourself ALL the time
  • Be confident about your authority
  • Say only what you know
  • Don’t go off the record
  • Notes are OK
  • Include part of the question in your answer

For another recap of the event, see “National Expert Provides Media Training Tips” at the PRSA-NCC website.
