Guest Post by Linda Kurtz, Online Community Engagement Manager for The Campus Kitchens Project
They say millennials don’t care about anything other than themselves. But time and time again, the students we work with at The Campus Kitchens Project prove that the naysayers are entirely wrong.
The Campus Kitchens Project is a national leader in community service for students and is the future of hunger relief. We partner with high schools, colleges, and universities to share on-campus kitchen space, recover food from cafeterias that would have otherwise gone to waste and engage students as volunteers who prepare and deliver meals to the community. Since we started in 2001, thousands of millennials have recovered more than 3,697,000 pounds of food and have served more than 2,225,000 meals in their communities.
So we know millennials do care and they’re willing to go all in for the causes they believe in. And, this week, they’re rallying people from across the country to “Join the MOOvement” to support their work fighting food waste and hunger in the United States. I am honored to lead the communication strategy for this project.
We’re not looking to raise a certain dollar amount; instead, we’re aiming to galvanize as many donors as we can. In fact, if we receive support from 150 donors by September 28, our friends at National Dairy Council will add $5,000 to the contributions. Could you be one of our 150 donors?
Join the MOOvement by donating today to help us open more Campus Kitchens this year. In the last academic year, 36 Campus Kitchens across the country rescued more than 939,034 pounds of food and served 271,967 meals to 8,509 clients.
Just imagine how we could fight food waste and hunger in the United States if our network consisted of 100 schools. With your support, we aim to recover more than one million pounds of food this academic year.
Your donation signals your support for both the fight against food waste and also the efforts of millennials to make a significant difference in communities across the United States. Don’t forget to harness the power of social media and share why you chose to #jointheMOOvement!
