Take a look at your audience engagement initiatives. Are you really engaging them in a relationship, or are you merely trying to extract great testimonials and stories that you can use in your marketing efforts?
Engagement is more than crafting a hashtag, sitting back, and letting people tell their stories. First, that may not be how they want to interact with you (I don’t want to tell you my life story, I just want to offer this tip…) second, the stories they offer may, well, be pretty boring.
You need to connect with your audiences in ways that are mutually satisfying. You can suggest engagement that suits your needs, but you also need to listen to your audience and hear their needs.
Do they want to connect with others who are connected to you? Do they want information before it is public? Do they want an opportunity to tell about their products or services that are related to yours? These ideas may not serve your interests directly, but if they serve your audience then they can lead to effective, meaningful interaction.
