Earning Google Love

heart_headerWhen you Google your company or client name, how well does it rank in search results? When you use specific, relevant keywords for your search, you must rank well. If not, it’s time to do some work to gain some Google love.

Make sure you have submitted your URL to Google. This lets Google know about you. It can take three to six weeks for your website to appear.

If your site is submitted, check your site’s search performance. Most people don’t click past the first page of search results. You want it to rank on the first page. If you are not there, you are not using effective search engine optimization (SEO).

Improve Your SEO

Use keywords in your content. Keywords are single words and short phrases related to your business. These should be terms that people are likely to use when they search Google. The more relevant to your industry and specific to your product or services, the better the keyword.

Seek links to your site. Ask clients, industry groups, and other credible websites with related content to include a link to your website. Ask for links to the most relevant page, which may or may not be your home page. It is very helpful to be specific in your request: “On your page about xxx, can you add a link that says ‘yyy’ and links to URL zzz”?

Focus on great, keyword rich content. Your content should be specific to your business. Write original content as much as possible. Google’s latest algorithm ranks sites with original, relevant content more highly than those with content repeated elsewhere.Blog. If your site content doesn’t change often, add a blog. Blog at least twice a week with original content that uses your keywords and phrases. Link blog posts to relevant portions of your website.

Monitor Continuously

Set a task to regularly check your Google ranking. SEO is a continuous effort and your rank is impacted by what you do as well as what others are doing. You may need to use new keywords periodically to maintain your Google rank.
