Jill Kurtz, APR

IMG_3713_350A digital strategy, strategic communication, and public relations professional, Jill is a relationship person who is not satisfied to put a message, website, social community, publication or other communication tool out there and declare the work done. The value of a great communicator is not in the selection of words in a particular deliverable; it is the ability to get invested with the right audience for a long-term, ongoing relationship of give and take, send and share.

Jill is always learning about the latest ways to achieve communication goals. She enjoys finding ways to make new technologies help organizations to accomplish their most basic tasks—to connect with the people that they serve and to thrive.

As the leader of Kurtz Digital Strategies, Jill is proud to help clients see the communication potential of the newest trends and technologies.

Jill has served General Motors, International Paper, Fairfax County Public Schools, Arlington Public Schools, Balance Interactive, and American Public University System.

During her time with Fairfax schools, she developed and implemented the school system’s public Web, intranet, and Keep in Touch e-mail system. At Balance Interactive, she was the first employee and grew the company to 20+ strong. She was chief operating officer and led the efforts to create effective online strategies for more than 100 clients.

Awards include the Communitas Leadership Award (2010), Greater Springfield Chamber of Commerce Top Hat Service Award (2009), PRSA-NCC Thoth Award finalist (2009), The e-Gov Institute Pioneer Award  (2004), NSPRA Golden Achievement Award (2009),  CHESPRA Award of Excellence (2004), FCPS Robert R. Spillane Leadership Award finalist (2002), and the International Paper Corporate Award of Excellence for Media Communication (1991).

Jill earned and maintains the  Accredited in Public Relations (APR) professional designation. She has a BA in Communication from the State University of New York at Buffalo. She is chair of the PRSA National Capital Chapter web committee. She serves on the board of the Independent PR Alliance.

When not learning or researching new ideas to help clients, Jill enjoys spending time with her family. She is also the volunteer webmaster Burke Presbyterian Church.
