Don’t Ignore Your Website Contact Page
People visit websites to connect with businesses. So, a Contact page is an essential element of every website. The right content on this page can make you money by improving both customer satisfaction and search engine presence.
Website Contact Page Best Practices
The best practices list starts with having a contact page. This is a basic and critical way to engage with site visitors, signaling that what they want or need is as important as what you want to share.
- Don’t get fancy with the navigation label – call it “Contact” or “Contact Us”
- Include the page on every other page by listing it in the header, navigation, and/or footer of the site
- Make sure the page offers easy options to get in touch that are accurate and properly monitored
A contact page needs to offer more than a form. There will be people who don’t understand the form, can’t work it from a small screen like a cell phone, and/or are naturally averse to submitting any information online.
Provide ample contact options, like an email address, phone number, or social media. Only list options that you want people to use and that you will commit to monitoring. Don’t ask people to tweet if you never monitor your account! Don’t have form submissions go to an email address that is never checked.
Don’t Set and Forget
Keep the Contact page current! Like all your other web pages, your contact page needs maintenance. Make sure your information is accurate at all times. If you have a form, periodically test that it still works.
One of the top items I encounter when auditing or revamping a website is a broken form on the contact page or form submissions that were never addressed. When someone takes the time to contact you, it is critical to be responsive. Your Website Can Be Improved offers more tips for maintaining your website.
