Facebook Refresher

Facebook and Instagram are sister channels. The former has the largest audience and the latter is popular with younger consumers who see Facebook as a bit stale. Most brands will want to leverage both. Here’s a reminder of the basics to do that well.

  • Build community. Use your Facebook page to build relationships. People are more likely to engage with a post that feels personal rather than something that’s over-produced or obviously not created by you.
  • Use stories. Facebook stories can be posted to both Instagram and Facebook at the same time, which can help to maximize coverage and engagement. Not all functionalities are available on each Stories version so pay attention to any differences that impact your message.
  • Hashtags are for Instagram. Facebook supports hashtags, but they never gained a foothold. You don’t need them on the platform. However, hashtags have high value on Instagram. People use the Instagram Explore tab, so including the right hashtags can increase the likelihood that your content will surface there.

Connecting on social media means following best practices for each platform.  Follow these basics and you are on your way!
