The Bazelon Center for Mental Health Law website is a rich resource for policymakers, thought leaders, mental health advocates, lawyers and the media. The site supports the work of the center by sharing its work, mental health law resources, and attracting funders and donors.

After more than 50 years of operation, the website had become cumbersome. It was hard for staff members to manage, and a challenge of users to find information. The site architecture was stretched to the limit. It was time to assess the site and take a new approach.

Kurtz Digital Strategy did a comprehensive website audit. The website was evaluated with these key factors in mind:

  • Website best practices
  • Section 508 compliance
  • Center goals
  • Staff needs

The audit report provided recommendations for restructuring the site to become a primary resource for mental health law. A new information architecture was proposed that provided a clear location for all content. Specific strategies were defined that would enable staff to more easily maintain the site.
