Boost Your Business With Brand Images

October 20, 2020/0 Comments/in Tools to Use /by Guest Blogger

“Having good images allows you to claim higher prices.”

Exactly when WAS the last time you had photos taken for your business?

I know, I know…getting your photos taken is about as much fun as going to the dentist. No offense to the dentists out there but if you are one, I bet you don’t like having your photo taken either!

When you started your business, you needed a headshot for your LinkedIn profile and website. So, you found a photographer and ended up with a decent professional photo of yourself on a boring gray background that shows people what you look like, right?

And hey, that’s all you really need. I mean you aren’t trying to become an Instagram influencer, you just want to have a successful business, right?

Well, let me ask you…

  • Do you dream of creating a wildly successful online business?
  • Are you a speaker who wants to land big stages and get paid to speak?
  • Do you dream of becoming known as the expert in your industry?
  • Do you want to be a best-selling author?
  • Do you want to easily pivot in your business and bring your audience with you?

If you said yes to any of these, then stay with me.

What are personal brand photos?

Personal brand photos are images that result from intentionally creating a visual interpretation of the concepts you want to communicate to your target audience and transformations your product or service provides to your ideal clients.

Yes, that’s my “technical definition” but since that’s pretty boring, I’ll also put it this way:

Personal brand images help you:

  • Stand out online
  • Build the know, LOVE, and trust factor
  • Show your audience why they must choose YOU
  • Sell out your offers
  • Sell more books!
  • Show event organizers why YOU should speak at their event

Besides all of those pretty amazing things, here’s something really interesting. Did you know that social media posts that include images produce 650% higher engagement than text only posts?

Yes, that saying “a picture is worth a thousand words” is totally true!

What images should I have?

The possibilities for your brand images are practically endless. Since the whole point of branding is to highlight your uniqueness and why your ideal client should choose you, no one list of specific images will work for all people. However, I’ve put together some general ideas for images you can, and should have for your business:

A high-quality horizontal image that can be used as the “hero” image on your website. For most service-based business, you can make this an image of you, you working with a “client” OR a client after they have experienced “transformation” as a result.

Create images that show your most important personality traits or aspects about your life that connect you with your ideal client. The key is to be intentional about truly connecting with your audience.

Create images that show emotion! If you want your clients to feel empowered and confident, an image of a client standing in a power pose looking towards the “future” with a smile really drives home the point!

Create some “behind the scenes” images too. It’s a fact that people will feel closer to you if you show them that little peek behind the curtain in your business.

Using your brand photos

You may be thinking, “Hey Melissa, thanks for the info but where the heck would I even use photos like these anyway?” I’m here to tell you that you can use your images to connect with your audience in tons of ways.

Here’s how my speakers, authors and entrepreneurs have used their images to grow their business and their impact:

  • Website
  • Profiles and banners for social media
  • Speaker bios and one-sheets
  • Blog posts
  • Media kits
  • Podcast art and video podcast intros
  • Social media posts
  • Newsletters
  • Lead magnets
  • Webinars
  • Book covers
  • Magazine articles, and much more!

Get the tools you need

If you’ve read this far, I am guessing that at least one of these statements are true for you:

  • You are sick and tired of attracting price-shopping clients
  • You are frustrated that you get little engagement on your social media
  • You want to attract the RIGHT clients without being pushy or having to “market” AT them all the time

Imagine if your website and social media platforms enticed your ideal clients to comment on your posts, grab your new freebie, and schedule calls with you, without having to keep proving that you are the expert.

Wouldn’t that feel amazing?

If this sounds like you, grab my FREE “Boost Your Brand Toolkit”

This toolkit will help you identify actionable steps to take to:

  • Attract more of the kinds of clients who are ready to buy
  • Land more speaking opportunities to grow your audience and get more leads

  • Up-level your look and scale your business
  • Show up as an expert and thought leader in your industry

I cannot wait to see you SHINE online!

Best Practices for Online Images and Videos

February 20, 2020/0 Comments/in Communication /by Jill Kurtz

We all know visual content draws attention online. Pay attention to composition, tone and content to make the most impact with your images and videos.

Graphics and videos that are helpful and meaningful have the most impact. With that said, small details in visuals can impact user interest as well as their perception of the content.

Get to the Point Quickly

People’s attention wavers quickly. While text allows users to read at their own pace, videos progress at a set speed and holding people’s attention for any length of time is difficult. Videos that provide information quickly and clearly do best. Research shows that under 30 seconds is a good goal.

Keep Out Distractions

Be sure your image or video doesn’t have any unnecessary details that distract from your message. That can be anything from something unidentifiable in the background to a loud pattern in someone’s clothes. Make sure nothing distracts from the intended focus.

Be Accurate

Make sure the image or video is accurate for the message you want to convey. If you are talking about electric cars, don’t use a visual of a car that people know has a regular engine. The visual has to be a proper illustration. Inaccuracies can kill your message.

Create Brand Consistency

Make sure your images and videos share a consistent tone, coloring, etc. that make them clearly from the same source. Look at the social posts for major brands and you will see a consistency that unites all of their visuals no matter the specific topic or message. This is subtle but has an important impact on your viewer.

Tools to Up Your Insta Game

January 16, 2020/0 Comments/in Communication, Tools to Use /by Jill Kurtz

Instagram is a visual platform. If you are like me, words are easier to create than images. Well, here are a few tools that can help.

Start by exploring the functionality within Instagram. Then layer in extra apps.

  • Photo editing: Edit and resize your photography.
  • Layout and design: Create collages, creative layouts, and graphics.
  • Video tools: Capture, design, and edit videos.

Photo Editing

VSCO

VSCO is one of the original and most popular mobile photo-editing apps. The free version comes with 10 presets that make your phone-shot photos look like they were captured on film, along with photo-editing tools like contrast and grain.

Snapseed

Works on both JPG and RAW files, making it a powerful tool for professional photographers. Beyond filtering your photos, you can perform serious photo-editing tasks like removing elements (or even people) from the photo, adjusting the geometry of buildings, and using curves to control the brightness of your image.

A Color Story

Offers filters and presets designed by professional photographers. There are also some advanced editing tools, and you can create and save custom filters to develop a unique brand look. Grid planning tools help you ensure your entire Instagram grid is unified and cohesive.

Layout and Design

Layout from Instagram

Layout is a feature-rich, super-simple photo mixer that instantly “lays out” up to nine photos in various combinations to form a collage. You can pick photos from your camera roll or shoot as you go with the built-in photo booth. Then it’s a matter of adjusting the dimensions of each box, adding filters, and uploading.

Adobe Spark Post

Combine your photos with Adobe’s layouts and fonts to create creative graphics perfect for sharing on Instagram. You can also select from thousands of free images directly within the app.

A Design Kit

From the makers of A Color Story, this design Instagram app is packed with fonts to customize your posts. It’s also got loads of unique stickers and has a ton of brushes, from markers to pencils, so you can get on trend by drawing on your Instagram photos.

Video tools

Boomerang from Instagram

A simple video capture app. Open the app, press the button, and you’re done. Boomerang takes a burst of 10 photos and uses them to create a mini video that loops forward and back, like a GIF.

LifeLapse

LifeLapse uses ghosted image overlay tools so you can line up a series of photos to create a perfect sense of motion. Once you’ve added and adjusted your photos, the app stitches them into a video, with the option to add royalty-free music.

InShot

A comprehensive app for video editing. You can trim, cut, split, merge, and crop video clips; adjust settings like brightness and saturation; add music; adjust video speed; flip and rotate; and add text and stickers. If you regularly edit videos on your phone, this is a great option with plenty of features.
